Concept art for an upcoming Demongate High RPG expansion, my semi-re-envisioned valkyrie, based on the most direct Norse mythology descriptions I could find (all totally vague) along with some original flavor added and some suggestions by .
I might do some other pics of her, maybe changing the skirt area a little.

Her armor should be completely black. The gloves and boots are totally lacking detail, because I wasn't sure how to do the designs properly. I just didn't want her to have the goofy "fuzzy boots" you always see in "traditional" norse character art (like D&D art from the 80s... yuck). I also thought the scale mail would be cool if it looked like feathers...

The valkyries are semi-divine beings created by the Aesir (the Norse gods) to fly over battlefields and choose the souls of the greatest fallen warriors to be brought to Ysgard to join the Aesir's army. They "fly over the battlefield as swan maidens" according to the Edda. So, for that reason, I tried giving her a swan motif to her armor (unfortunately, because I suck, it didn't come out quite as cool as I hoped). So, "swan maidens" carry white cloaks that let them turn into swans. I thought it would be cool to make the valkyrie version a little "darker" and different, so I made it a black scarf; they use it to fly, turning it into black swan wings, and can also turn entirely into black swans. If they lose their scarves, they're in trouble!

In the lower right is a closeup if her eye... since valkyries fly high in the sky and examine the battlefield, I figured they'd have birdlike eyes. So, she has eyes like an eagle: a deep, angry-looking brow, and yellow irises with tiny pupils.
